Barcelona, Spain, March 13, 2025 – Telkomsel and Huawei have once again achieved a global milestone by winning the “Innovative Mobile Service and Application Award” at the GTI Awards 2025 during MWC Barcelona (4/3). This award recognizes the success of Telkomsel and Huawei in implementing Hyper 5G – specifically 5G Standalone (5G SA) – as a Smart Port solution at Benoa Port in Bali, an emerging tourism market that represents a tangible step forward in accelerating digital transformation and strengthening Indonesia’s digital economy ecosystem.

GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) is a global industry alliance focused on the development of TD-LTE and 5G technologies. Established in 2011, GTI serves as a collaborative platform for operators, vendors, and academic institutions to accelerate the evolution of networks and telecommunication services. GTI Awards celebrate outstanding innovations and achievements in digital technology and services, making it one of the most prestigious awards in the global telecommunications industry.

With the Smart Port project at Benoa Port, Hyper 5G delivers ultra-fast connectivity and low latency, enhancing port operational efficiency, supporting logistics and tourism sectors, and empowering local communities in Bali to continue advancing.

As a catalyst for industrial and tourism sector digitalization, Telkomsel and Huawei have leveraged cutting-edge 5G technologies—including cloud computing, AI-based video surveillance, and TDD-FDD Dual Massive MIMO—to improve efficiency, security, and productivity, while unlocking new economic opportunities for local businesses.

The 5G Standalone (5G SA) framework – currently being trialed on a temporary basis – also demonstrates the potential for introducing 5G RedCap technology, which aims to lower costs for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and households by providing high-speed internet access that was once out of reach. While still under development and not yet commercially available, 5G Cloud Phone are projected to work in tandem with 5G RedCap to reduce hardware dependencies and deliver advanced communication features that will further improve accessibility and user experience.

Wong Soon Nam, Chief Strategic Planning Officer at Telkomsel, stated, "This award is not just an achievement for Telkomsel and Huawei, but also for the communities and industries driving Indonesia’s digital transformation. Through the implementation of Hyper 5G, we ensure that ultra-fast connectivity and low latency can be optimized across various sectors, including logistics and tourism. We are committed to continuously expanding the Hyper 5G ecosystem so its benefits can be widely felt, accelerating economic growth, and bringing Indonesia closer to the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045."

Zhang Ziyan, CMO of Huawei APAC Region, added, "We are proud to partner with Telkomsel in delivering innovative solutions that drive industrial transformation through 5G technology. This collaboration reflects Huawei’s commitment to providing leading digital connectivity that not only enhances operational efficiency but also creates real impact for society and industries. This award is proof of how the evolution of 5G technology can accelerate digitalization across key sectors, boost business competitiveness, and unlock new economic opportunities in the era of smart connectivity."

To date, Telkomsel has been rapidly expanding Hyper 5G coverage, adding over 700 new 5G sites in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. In total, Telkomsel now operates more than 2,100 5G BTS sites across 56 cities/regencies, covering industrial zones, residential areas, international airports, ports, hospitals, priority tourism destinations, and the development area of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). This expansion is expected to not only advance Indonesia’s telecommunications infrastructure but also open up new opportunities, drive innovation and productivity, and accelerate digital economic growth.

This 2025 GTI Awards recognition further strengthens Telkomsel’s role in building an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem in Indonesia through collaboration with key stakeholders, including strategic partners such as Huawei. Aligned with the #PastiAdaSolusi spirit, Telkomsel continues to provide innovative and superior connectivity, services, and solutions to empower everyone, every household, and every business.
