Jakarta, April 5 2024 – In an effort to support the implementation of environmental sustainability, Telkomsel, which is part of the Telkom Group through the Enterprise segment, is taking concrete steps by planting 1000 mangrove trees in Patra Manggala Village, Tangerang, Banten.
In line with the spirit of #PastiAdaSolusi Buat Langkah Berani and collaborate with a carbon footprint calculation platform, Jejakin, this initiative reflects Telkomsel's collaborative spirit in implementing the principles Environmental, Social, andGovernance (ESG) in order to create positive changes for the environment and realizing responsibility in minimizing enviro impacts arising from the carried out business processes.
Apart from being a real step in maintaining environmental sustainability, the program to plant 1000 Rhizophora apiculata mangrove trees has been started since mid-March aiming to protect the natural landscape and improve the quality life of local communities. This activity is also an extension of the Telkomsel Solution Day 2024 program which was held last February. The mangrove trees planted are a symbolic form of participation by visitors to the Telkomsel Solution Day event.
As part of the initiative Telkomsel Jaga Bumi, planting these mangrove trees will have a much greater effect rather than just increasing greenery level. In the future, the impact of planting these trees can also be measured. According to estimated calculations, in 8 years it will produce 30 tons of CO2e which is equivalent to 83 times the gasoline for the Jakarta-Surabaya trip.
Therefore, this step is more than just a greening effort but is a real action to maintain the balance of the ecosystem and tackle climate change. Apart from that, through this program, the public can contribute to protecting the environment by exchanging Telkomsel Points for tree planting as an effort to reduce the carbon footprint to preserve the earth.
Telkomsel itself is aware that the increased concentration of carbon dioxide and other gas in the atmosphere, which comes from various human activities, is one of the biggest contributing factors to climate change. To overcome this problem, Telkomsel is collaborating with Jejakin in implementing a carbon offset scheme to encourage the movement to replant green spaces, as a step to reduce CO2 levels in the air.
